Luke Broumand In week six of CBL, we recorded our data on the bridge of our school. We learned from our competition that people do really need to work out more. Some people could only hold a plank for about 20 seconds which is really bad physically, for the age group we focused on. To change the impact of our data I feel like we could have spread the word more, and get people to work out, we also could have made it more required to do the competition to get the people a little more physical activity. We received multiple sources of feedback, but I’m going to talk about a couple that we liked a lot. We had feedback to make our competition smaller with only including two grades, which we thought was a good idea, so we went with it. We also received feedback on how to spread the word fast and in a pretty efficient way, by going to the heads of the grades and asking them to send out emails that we are doing this on the bridge, and to have the grades fill out a survey if they are competing. 3/11/2019 1 Comment The final countdownWritten by: Beckett Gates
For our final solution of the 7th grade CBL project is an exercise competition. We made it for middle schoolers to see the effects of exercising and to be motivated for the future. We will be conducting basic exercises like planks, push ups, and steps to get people to see that even taking a little time out of your day to do these things can help. At first there was the basic idea of a competition brought up by our teacher, Kevin, but over the weeks that idea was adapted by the group. I would say the most difficult part of solution development was finding out how to get people to exercise. We talked to coaches and staff and came up with the idea of winning prizes and just making it fun by either having music or making things colorful. We plan on implementing our solution by first public speech, two holding the competition, and finally we will be taking data on how many people participated to show how much people care about exercising and on how people did in the exercises to show if their really is a need for people to exercise more. 3/10/2019 0 Comments Progress reportWritten by: Beckett Gates
In the four weeks of planning I we have made lots of progress considering how we even switched ideas in the first week. We have talked with head of middle school, Eric Mandel, interviewed head of exercising Kermit, and we now have a full plan of how the contest will unfold as the week progresses. While all this progress and action is happening there are still challenges as always. Our main issue for the windward exercise competition is moving people to a point where they not only are participating but having fun doing it. But through the interview with Kermit we did come across solutions to this problem. These solutions include participant input where the students make suggestions to make this an enjoyable experience for themselves. Now minor solutions also include music chosen by students in any genre (music must be clean), and also a surprise prize for the winners in the different categories. 2/14/2019 0 Comments Feedback and SolutionWritten By: Zach Klubeck
Throughout this week we have been advancing our solution and getting feedback to continue improving it. On our day where the faculty came in, we got lots of good suggestions on how to make our idea more productive. One of the faculty members helped us acknowledge the team portion of our solution. Our current solution, is holding a fitness competition within windward. The competition will include weekly or monthly challenges that result in a reward going to the leader. The winner is determined by how long they can do a certain exercise or how many of a certain exercise they can do. We are going to be working with the windward faculty to help all the people that don’t get enough exercise. Our Solution is helpful because the competition is what would motivate people to get involved, interested, and want to win. The reason our solution will be helpful and productive to the public is because it is a more intriguing way of working out because instead of going to a gym and running on machines and lifting weight, you are doing simple exercises that you can do with your friends and without machines. 2/12/2019 0 Comments Advancing The SolutionWritten By: Luke Broumand
In the last week our group has made tremendous progress, from us starting with a very broad topic to now with us having a very solid idea. The first idea we had was to try to help public gyms by adding new machines to help people work out more for free. Now we are trying to get people in our community to work out more, by creating a contest, based on working out to help people exercise more. This is how the contest works, the 3 divisions are competing against each other, and then after a whole week, we're going to see what division took the most steps, climbed the most steps, etc…! This week we started to think of more ideas and solution, we came up with many more topics to further research, but we did end up narrowing it down to one topic. We consider on making an app to help people find the nearest public gym to work out in, but we wanted something to do with more our community, and that’s when we came up with the idea we have now. The solution that we thought of isn’t really being used today we were trying to create new ideas that have never been done. I think If we were to go with this other idea it may have been a little to browned, but it still was a very good idea. I think what we’re going to to differently Is just focus on a very small community, and expand from there. 2/5/2019 0 Comments Behind The ScenesWritten by Beckett Gates
We are a group of three seventh grade boys who decided to help people exercise because America is the most obese nation in the world. Luke Broudman, Zach Klubeck, and I (Beckett Gates) focused on the problems facing public gyms. We connected to the topic personally because we all exercise and have realized the consequences of not exercising. Our small subject that narrowed in on is problems with public gyms and we got to that place because through research we found major problems like those gyms only have 1-2 machines. |
